Angelina Jolie, original name Angelina Jolie Voight, (born on June 4, 1975 in Los Angeles, California, U.S.), American actress and director who is known for her sexual edginess and sex appeal as well as her work for the cause of helping others. The role she played in Girl, Interrupted (1999) was a part she won for the Academy Award. Jolie, the daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent most of her early life in New York. She moved to Los Angeles when she was 11 years old. She attended the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute for two years and later enrolled in Beverly Hills High School. Then, she pursued a degree in acting at New York University. Also, she was an actor in theater productions. In later years, she did modeling and appeared in music videos. Jolie met Jonny Lee Miller (1996, divorced 1999).). Like many of the subsequent films, this one did not attract a crowd. Jolie was the segregationist spouse of Alabama's governor and garnered the attention of many in 1997. She later received an Golden Globe Award. In the HBO movie Gia in which she was a model who suffered from drug addiction. She was awarded multiple distinctions and awards, including a Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award. In 1999, she starred in the comedy Pushing Tin with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton, and in the year following she got married to Thornton (divorced 2003).After the Oscar-winning turn in Girl, Interrupted, Jolie was a part of a number of action films. She played the wife of the carjacker (Nicolas Cage) in Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000) and later changed her accent to the British accent and learned combat sports and street fighting for the title roles in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003). She played the role of Alexander's mother in Oliver stone's Alexander in 2004. She also starred with Jude Law and Gwyneth paltrow in Sky Captain: The World of Tomorrow which is a suspense film about science fiction set in 1930s New York City. Both films were box-office failures however Jolie was a huge success in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) the film in which she portrayed an assassin posing as an ordinary housewife. While working on the film she became acquainted with Brad Pitt, who became her partner.
